Set Out Tips

7:00 AM Collection

To ensure that your Blue Box materials are collected, place your Blue Box out by 7:00 AM on your designated collection day. We realize that you can sometimes get into a routine as to when your materials are collected, but we can't guarantee that we will arrive at the same time each day. Something as simple as a driver calling in sick can alter the schedule of 12 other drivers which could affect collection in more than 16 communities on any given day.

Clean Blue Boxes

Collection of materials from a Blue Box can sometimes be a downright sickening experience when maggots and other creatures have to be dealt with. Please make sure that cans and other recyclables are rinsed and that no food is left in the bottom. Please don't make our employees deal with materials that you yourself would not want to handle.

Mail Box Users

Don't forget the rural mail carrier when you set out your box. Blue Boxes are often placed out in a fashion that interferes with your mail delivery. Place your Blue Box in a visible location preferably beside as opposed to in front of your mail box.

No Needles Please

Many unusual and sometimes dangerous things have been found in the Blue Box. Hypodermic needles cause obvious fright to those who handle Blue Box materials. Neither needles nor syringes are recyclable and should not be placed in recycling containers. Contact your local pharmacist or hospital for proper disposal procedures.

Hide And Seek

Please don't hide your Blue Box. Be sure not to place it behind obstructions so that it can be clearly seen from the roadway. The Blue Box is the signal to the drivers to stop. If the box can't be seen, drivers have no reason to stop.

Flattening Boxboard

It makes no sense to transport air around the countryside. If your recycling truck collects cardboard and boxboard boxes that are not broken down, we are transporting air since most of our trucks do not compact materials. Help us make your recycling program as efficient as possible. Break down and bundle cardboard boxes. Break down boxboard boxes and stuff in largest boxboard box, such as a detergent or cereal box.
