Self-haul to your local leaf and yard waste site or the landfill. You can chip these to use them for mulch or in your backyard compost.

For curbside pickup: wood scraps, branches and twigs can be up to 4 inches in diameter and 3 feet in length in bundles weighing no more than 45 lbs.

For disposal at your local landfill, wood pieces must not exceed 8 feet in length and 8 inches in diameter. Yard waste should not be disposed of as garbage.

At the landfill in the garbage: Maximum size is 2 ftx2ftx2ft weighing no more than 45 lbs.

Depending upon the item, there may be salvage value. Another option: look in the Yellow Pages under “Scrap Metal” for drop-off locations. Dealers may pay market prices.

Give away or resell usable items – consider Craigslist, Freecycle, or look in the yellow pages under “Thrift Stores”.

Broken items go in the garbage. Be sure to put glass in a container or box if you place on the curb.

Small amounts of gravel can go in your garbage can – be sure not to exceed weight limits. Use in your landscape or give to neighbors – stacks of rocks provide homes for beneficial insects.

Otherwise, dispose of as garbage at your local landfill.

Give unwanted plants to your friends and neighbours, donate them for sale at a community plant sale or list them for “adoption” with Plant Amnesty.

Unpainted plywood, oriented strandboard (OSB), and particleboard are acceptable at your local landfill as clean woodwaste.

Painted and/or treated wood, including paneling, must be disposed of as garbage.

Offer pallets for reuse at a local thrift store or online, or take to your local landfill and dispose of as clean wood.

Painted wood and treated wood cannot be composted or recycled. Dispose of it as garbage at the your local landfill.
